A family member is an educator/administrator and familiar with the way districts determine the per pupil milage needed to operate effectively.
The projected SWCS deficit is $(678,000) for 2009-2010 and $(5,256,000) for 2010-2010 - this drastic difference is due to the amount of Tangible Personal Property Tax schools will no longer receive from local businesses. For example a car dealership currently pays taxes on their inventory (cars) and a portion is given to the local schools, beginning in 2011 these taxes will no longer distributed to schools. The district needs to find a way to replace this revenue and they are coming to the home owners.
My question to the school board is...Would a 3 mil emergency operating levy for 2 years be reasonable? This would generate $8,000,000. Be forthcoming with the reasoning behind the request and that it will only support the schools until 2011 and at that time the board will re-evaluate their situation. Who knows - there may even be changes to the way Ohio funds schools by that time.
The economic situation is difficult for everyone in our community and we are all making adjustments in our day to day budgets. A smaller amount would be a way for the board to show they are aware of the communities needs and they are willing to make concessions and together we rebuild our schools.

Question - If "The projected SWCS deficit is $(678,000) for 2009-2010 and $(5,256,000) for 2010-2010" is accurate, are those deficit numbers if the items that have been cut to this point remain cut or do they assume some reinstatement of items?
